Day 7

I realized, this 100PHP challenge is making me thinner...
And so it ends... Ha3

I ended it with a Ken Afford Sinigang na baboy for dinner=Happiness!!!

Too bad I don't have anything to blog about everyday...

Monday, July 6, 2009

Day 6

Today was a case of forgetfulness and "the spirit was willing but the flesh was weak."

I forgot about the 100 pesos budget and spent 100 PHP already on large Nutrilicious Chocolate Large (35) and Chicken Kalbi (65). When we were going to have dinner, the decision to eat at Red Ribbon meant only one thing: Salisbury steak meal + extra rice (137 + 12). The meal already included a free cake. :D
This incident lead to an introduction of a new rule to the 100-a-day challenge. MONDAYS are excluded. hahaha. :P

Day 5

Spent the whole day at home trying to motivate myself to do the things to do. Instead I ended up watching prison break re-runs and the first episodes of Gossip Girl which I haven't seen before...

Expenses for the day:

Dinner: 46PHP - Sinigang na bangus with extra rice. San ka pa!

Saturday, July 4, 2009

Day 4

Expenses:

Lunch: 55 (Bulalo)
Dinner: 44 (Tuna and Rice) --> Reliving good old college days. It's been years since I had my very own recipe of century tuna with all-purpose cream. Of course the cream was part of the grocery expenses this week.

Gardenia: 41
Magnolia Fresh Milk: 62.50
Nestle All-purpose Cream: 40
Nissin Mini-cup Seafood: 13.75
Lucky Me Pancit Canton (2): 15.40
Lucky Me Noodles (2): 13
Presto Cream Choco: 9.95
Fuji Apple: 35

TOTAL: 278.10

sixth cellphone ever

Say hello to my new phone, a Nokia 1661. It's a bit of a downgrade from my Motorola W230 because this one doesn't have an MP3 player and the alarm clock only supports a single alarm (whereas W230 can have up to five alarm times; very useful especially when I accidentally press the "disable" button instead of the "snooze"). It has a flashlight though...

Looking back to the post I made about my fifth phone, I shouldn't despair at all. I pegged the lifespan of that phone to 6 months but had it for more than a year. It's like it had two lives (or something, basta times two!) :)

Additional note: I realized that owning a Sun Cellular seems practical so I'm getting a second one, a second hand from Pael.

Day 3

Went a little bit over budget today. That's besides the fact that I ate lunch at the Ateneo faculty day celebration (and ran afterwards).

McDo Chicket fillet with rice: 42
Siomai sa LRT: 29
Jolibee: 30
Transpo: 7+15

TOTAL: 123 (if you don't count the transpo expenses that's just a peso over the limit...) --> excuses... haha

But I bought a new phone(Nokia XXXX) to replace the lost one. I was tempted to buy the Nokia 3310 reconfigured/repaired model (800) because no one seems to be still using that model (and that's a phone that I would not feel too sad losing). Anyway, the one I bought costs 2450. I also bought a Sun sim card (for a 100 PHP) because the SIM I got from globe wasn't activated yet and I needed to use the phone... Btw, the new SIM from Globe also costs 100.

So all in all, my total expenses for today is 2450+100+100+123 = 2773.

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Day 2

Spent just 79 PHP today. hehe.

Breakfast: Left over Cheese Burger from McDo last Tuesday night.
Lunch: Salt and Pepper Ribs sa Caf (65 PHP)
Dinner: Sardines with egg --> from grocery supplies

Transpo to UP: 14 PHP

Yeah Boy!

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Day 1

Bought groceries amounting 122 PHP:

1. Presto creams (peanut butter flavor)
2. 1 dozen eggs
3. 200 grams Quaker oats (Banana and honey)

Lunch and breakfast were "free": pancit canton and century tuna
Dinner: 48 PHP (Fried chicken)

Transpo to UP: 14 PHP

trip lang

At dahil kailangang ring magtipid... At pipilitin ko na hindi ito ang maling pagtitipid na mag-iipon tapos bibili ng isang mamahaling bagay.
Starting today, I will try to live on 100 pesos per day and 300 pesos of groceries per week. Already spent ~200 on groceries this week so I still have 100 for groceries later:
1 L Milk
6 Lucky Me Pancit canton
6 pcs. ensaymada
1 box of Nescafe (10 pcs.)
1 Century tuna
All proceeds will go to passive income generating shit stuff.
Teka, anliit lang din pala ng makukuha ko dito, kahit saan na lang mapunta yung extra.

Classes start on Monday (June 15)

It's been a year since I started teaching. A lot of my friends were telling me that they never imagined me being a member of the academe. At some point, neither did I. I've always dreamt of buying a condo unit and dream car by age 25(?). Which at a certain level, I know I won't be able to attain right away from the salary of a college professor. Nevertheless, I opted to try it because of the apparent freedom. The prospect of an 8-5 job for the rest of my life is unacceptable and I can see that staying in one will make me get used to it. My impression from people from my previous job is that they want to get out but they can't because they have limited options. (maybe someday I'll eat(?) my words)

But looking back, I would say that I enjoyed it. Apart from the fact that I can do all the school stuff (reading, preparations,  checking, etc.) late at night and waking up very late in the morning, I loved the idea that I am a student again. I had to study most of the topics I taught the previous year and learned a lot. Each preparation also felt like I was investing in something. Why? Because when I taught the same course during the second semester, the effort was almost less than half compared to when I taught the subject the first time. I had time to do other things (well, not really a lot since I had to spend a lot of time for my Masters degree, which by the way is helping me earn some more because of the ERDT scholarship). In terms of finances, I am really very satisfied. On paper, my salary was almost halved when I made the transition from industry to academe. However, due to the additional subjects I taught and other extra sources such as mentoring for competitions(e.g. SMART SWEEP) plus my allowance from ERDT and earnings from our photography business, the sum total was almost the same. Good thing the income from extra subject came at the last month of the school year when my family needed the additional cash. This June, we're opening a store and the extra cash was used to finance the initial rentals, store renovation and some furnitures. I wish the business would take off, so my father won't have to go abroad anymore. I also had some travel opportunities in Malaysia and Bohol last year.
But it's not all fun. At the start, I really had a hard time adjusting to the generation I'm interacting with. First, there's the senior professors who are very mature. They're more inclined on family and/or academic research matters and less of the gimmicks, sports and other similar activities. They no longer talk about women, NBA or facebook.
And then there's the younger students who I would say, are more spontaneous and had a different culture compared to when I was in college. Expressions such as "sabaw", "ultimate FAIL" and "wasak" were very much prevalent. But similar to us when we were in school, they want as light course work as possible.
It was somehow sad since I had no regular company, owing to the fact that I had no really really close friends and the girlfriend (now ex) had a busy work and left for Japan eventually at the start of the second sem. Plus, it was difficult to be-friend students since there's a feeling that there has to be a gap between me and them. Since I am a teacher, they should not see a lot of the lighter side of me. However, I had a change of heart at some point and realized that the times, they are a-changing (ala watchmen soundtrack), and there's no need to put that boundary outside the classroom. So now, I have lots of friends from the fresh graduates and even current students. I even have a basketball team for the AECES sportsfest and go out with them on videoke sessions.
Anyway, the semester is starting again in a few days. I hope it will be more fun and educational for my students. See you in school.

on sex scandals and keeping files protected

It seems to me that Hayden Kho is also partly a victim in these sex videos. Although filming those women without their consent is wrong, my impression is that it is not his intention to expose those footage to the public. How can then the leakage of private and personal files be avoided?

If you have WinRAR installed, you can archive the files and protect it with a password.
Right click on the file/folder you want to archive and select "add to archive..."

Click on the "Advanced" tab
Click on "Set password..."
Enter your password and click OK

Make sure to delete the original unarchived files.

raylene's last day sa review

I promised my sister who's been staying with me for the past month to attend review sessions for college entrance exams that we'll go to Starbucks once during her stay. Unfortunately, she doesn't need to study anymore since they already took their ACET evaluation exam yesterday. So, no more excuse for us of staying there for a long time. Nonetheless, I decided we go, just to show her how expensive coffee is there. hehe. (I don't go there myself too often too). I ordered Caramel frappuccino for her and Capuccino with mint syrup for myself. We took photos at home (first time eh. haha):

Post post post

I just realized, it's been a while since I wrote something worthwhile. And I don't seem to have anything interesting that I can reveal to the public the past few days/weeks/months of my life. Which reminds me, I'll no longer be 23 two days from now. I'll miss the "di nga, 23 ka lang!?!" reactions from my colleagues and students. hehe.

And before I forget, I went to Bohol last week. Story was: 1. my kit lens broke and 2. I had 2 days of LBM. It was my first time to experience such excruciating abdominal pain (I was thinking of texting my my mother and loved ones and tell them I loved them while I was lying on the bathroom floor. haha) Luckily I still had 1.5 days to see the sights after I got better. Photo above courtesy of Dr. Saldana when we went snorkling in one of the nearby islands.

Lorem Ipsum

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?

One Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino for FREE

A friend of mine (forgot who) suggested we do this way way back and I've been wanting to do it ever since. I finally mustered enough courage(?) to actually do it (I was actually pressured by my friend... hehe)

Unfortunately the barista didn't shout it out loud. Maybe next time I'll stay as far away from the bar as possible or I won't get the drink until he/she mentions my "name."

If you didn't get it, I told the barista at the counter that my name was "free." The ideal outcome would have been the barista shouting:

One Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino for FREE
But what he said was:
One Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino for... (and looked around)

On a sad note, my Tuesday class was moved to Mondays and Tuesdays and I was given another class on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Now I have to hold classes four times a week instead of just once.

My new schedule:

Mondays: 5:30-7:30 PM (ECE12)
Tuesdays: 5:30-8:00 PM (ECE12)
Wednesdays: 5:00-7:30 PM (MSE/ECE161)

nanay and tatay's 25th wedding anniversary

My mother was actually wishing for a church wedding for their 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, they had to settle for photos at the altar and the area near the church. I was a bit shy shooting their photo. hahaha.

Here's a photo of my two sisters with tita Nadz in the center:
